A recent report by Frost & Sullivan highlighted the fact that foods will in the future become personalized in a similar way to how sports nutrition is currently.
How does this look like in practice though?. Well think of it in this way, as more research reveals that a number of nutritypes or metaboltypes exist (which essentially means people who metabolize nutrients in a similar way) we will be able to make small adjustments to their nutritional intake accordingly. Products which can be used as a base to which nutrients and non-nutrients can be added which spans across all members of a family for instance, will help in cutting down unnecessary supplements and pills whilst personalizing diets.
Here is a simple idea from me; Whey is a highly absorbable and nutritional source of complete protein which has various functions in the body including immune-boosting, muscle building and aids in satiety for those wanting to lose weight. Because of the high quality protein content, it is also great for kids as a snack. So how do you combine all the benefits of whey with the different nutritional requirements across different ages and for different health needs without clogging up your cupboard space?
In one of my dreamy states I was thinking about how to solve the problem and thought of a coffee capsule concept, but for a ready to drink product….fillable lids of course! I looked on the net and found that a company was already producing these types of caps (bright lightbulb now very dim again). I can see a potential for lids filled with different bioactive peptides in therapeutic doses to reduce Blood pressure, blood sugar or the like, packaged in different colours for a specific requirement or need. All you need to do is grab your cap, screw onto your whey drink, shake and it´s mixed for you! bioactive health bliss. This of course could be the future, once we have a better understanding of how bioactive peptides in foods (and plants) impact gene expression.
Just this morning, I read an article in the daily mail detailing how a new Nespresso -style machine that will dish up personalized meals by adding individual nutrients to meals is currently under development. I was quite amused how close this was to a prediction in one of my previous posts.
