So with summer in full swing at 33 degrees Celcius here on a near daily basis, everybody is always trying to look their best, because let´s face it, hot, bothered and panting in this heat is certainly not a good look. So, with healthy skin a key component for a summer glow, this article below caught my eye.
The author uses a nutrigenomics approach to look at the effect of diet on signalling pathways related to inflammation etc in acne development. I am yet to be convinced that we should be promoting Paleo-style diets to teenagers to prevent or reduce their acne. There is good enough evidence that a balanced diet, rich in fruit & vegetables, proteins, good fats and wholegrain foods is good for overall health and skin with of course plenty of water for hydration.
However it is worth highlighting that the author is presenting his abstract in a video (in addition to the traditional written one) which you can watch, I must admit I haven´t see that yet!, but I´m sure more will follow suit.
All in all, it´s been a busy, yet great week and I hope you are enjoying the summer wherever you are.
In the Headlines –
There is nothing better than a very cold drink on a hot summer´s day, however in this week´s headlines, a recent review published in the BMJ found that regular consumption of sugary drinks was linked to onset of Type 2 Diabetes. It was also found that “zero-calorie” style drinks and fruit juices were no better either. Very interesting reading!

Unilever back in court over pro.activ cholesterol claims (Nutraingredients)
Food giant Unilever appeared in a Hamburg court today to defend use of expert statements that its plant sterol-based Becel pro.activ did not raise cholesterol levels in healthy subjects.
This was going to happen sooner or later…..Befitnatic has just announced their first product, Nourish- A table top personalized nutrition supplement dispenser on the indigogo website for funding. This is no doubt where the future is headed and I remembered about Nestlé working on a Nespresso-style machine that would do something similar. I´d love to know what you think!, do leave me a comment below.
