Down at HQ
The first school day, ended up being filled with tears and fears (on mummy´s side) and he was bouncing out the house so excited to make new friends. So I will be going full speed as from next week and actually looking forward to it whilst the second year of my PhD is also whispering softly in my ears. My fitness routine is also back track and I´m already starting to feel great!
Anyway, in this weeks´issue, a new genetics study on Greenlandic inuits, my online quote on Jamie Oliver´s longevity foods, Fitbit is now Hippa compliant, what UK consumers think about eating bugs, lots of new research and event. I hope you´ll enjoy my picks.
In the Headlines
A new study has looked at the genomes of Greenlandic inuits and discovered that even they are known to consume high amounts of fish, the circulating fatty acid levels do not reflect this. They also tend to be 2cm shorter in comparison to their European and Asian counterparts. The possible explanation is in the mutations in genes that encode for FADS1, FADS2 and FADS3 enzymes, but the the exact mechanism is not known. Facinating stuff and again highlights the importance of the nutritional genomics field. To read the full story, click the link below.
Also moi was featured in the Daily mail article on Jamie Oliver and his list of “longevity foods”, I was totally against a food list as I think a wholefood approach is way better and some of the food facts were uhmmm really inaccurate shall we say. After a long chat with the journalist and email to raise concerns, one line was picked up!
