Down at HQ
It´s been a week since school started and we are still not quite in a routine with after-school activities and sports. It struck my son only this week that he will not see his friends again from pre-school so a few tears were shed.
On the other hand, I have felt a surge in my energy levels since starting yoga and swimming again and, like many I think to myself “why didn´t I start that earlier?”. We also visited the now unused tidal mill (pictured) from days gone by, where the moving of the tides makes the granite discs move and grind the wheat, stunning isn´t it?
In this week´s issue, Craig Venter in a new venture involving a major move that sees insurance company offer majorly discounted genome sequencing rates, lots of new research, start-up Thinkitdrinkit launch their flagship store and more events.

In the Headlines
This week saw the announcement of Craig Venter´s new venture called “Human Longevity Inc”. The company has teamed up with private insurer Discovery which has branches in South-Africa and the UK to offer DNA Data to its 4 million client base by sequencing their genomes for around $250. This is a first and major move for a insurer to offer genetic testing at really below cost price. Results will go either to a physician or genetic counsellor. To read the full story click here.

Functional Foods – Thinkitdrinkit
I have been watching this Connecticut company for a while and it seems as if they have finally launched. Interested in becoming a “Nutridista”? that is the term the company Thinkitdrink it are using for students who want to create their own personalised nutrition formula. The company has a flag ship store that opens next week. Initially it seemed as if they were going to use a nutrigenetics approach to recommend formula´s but it appears as if they have pivoted and focused on sport and beauty instead. Thank goodness! as it´s just too early for gene-based personalised nutrition supplements, but I can see the appeal for people wanting to make up their own supplements.
